Laika Phenomenon progress

Hello! Hello! Took a mental health week off from drawing and doing pretty much anything else due to some unruly bouts of Seasonal Affective Disorder, coupled with stress and PMS, but I'm on my way back up again! Huzzah!
So to get back into my groove I started fooling around with a concept sketch for my next toy with Patchtogether.com, being a tough-as-nails roller derby girl named Laika Phenomenon. Laika has been skating around my head for the better part of a year. I kinda want to do some sort of comic with her and the rest of her roller derby team. But for now, I'm making her a toy.

Thinking about colors with this sketch. Most likely will go black and white with her boutfit, as to be as team-neutral as possible (even though I'm sure there's some teams out there who use black and white). And some small touches of red, cuz it's one of my fave colors. I love her mouth guard and black eye the most. Prolly have stuff like her pads and helmet have outlines of blue around them to keep them separated. But yeah, I'm liking how she's turning out so far. I'm planning on doing some turnarounds of her for the final design, which I will certainly post here when it's all set. :)

Hey all! Just want to drop a note that my etsy store has reopened and I'm planning on updating with new product all this month. This is your only chance to get some rare one-of-a-kind Paigey original marker art dating back as far as 2003! Check it out!

My Piece for Girls Drawin Girls' Upcoming Dessert Themed Artbook

Just a quickie update: finished my piece for Girls Drawin Girls's upcoming artbook that's dessert-themed. My dessert of choice was tiramisu.

Keep an eye out here for when the book comes out! There's some top-notch stuff going into it. Some girls have posted previews of their pieces on the mailing list. I'm really impressed.

Some progress shots:

Rough layout in my sketchbook, along with my inspiration- an old Italian dessert company ad.

Rough pencils. And a wonky eye I didn't notice right away. XP

Inking with my old pals, Microns 03, 01 and 005. I ended up shortening her hair in Photoshop.

Coloring progress, laying flat colors in Photoshop.

Hope you enjoy!

Dr. Sketchy's at MoSex/Commissions

So this past Thursday I got to take part in an opening for the Rubbers exhibition at NYC's Museum of Sex via my pal Molly Crabapple and her Dr Sketchys Anti-Art School. A few Art Monkeys and I got to lifedraw a model in the middle of a party and encourage other partygoers to take part as well. There were gay pornstars walking around shirtless in leather chaps, an ice sculpture full of condoms and a balloon sculptor lady making balloon dicks and various other naughty balloon 'animals'. What was awesome about her was that the helium tanks were stored in her comically over-sized bra and the nozzle was on the nipple.

I also completed a commission I did for a lovely couple from Queens's upcoming wedding. This portrait will be used for their 'Save the Date' card being sent out next month. I think it turned out rather nice.

If you would be interested in getting a 'flower banner' commission for yourself, a single person is $200 and a second person will cost $250. I draw these significantly bigger than my standard full body commissions and they require alot more detail. I'll also include a banner with text of your choice. Shoot me an email at IamPaigey@yahoo.com if you're interested.
